Government imposes movement restrictions in Malé City due to rise in number of cases

Health Emergency Operations Centre has revealed that the government would be imposing measures to restrict movement of people in Greater Malé Area.

Speaking at a Press Conference held this evening, Health Ministry’s Deputy Director General for Policy Planning and International Health, Aishath Samiya said that these measures were taken due a rapid rise in the number of positive cases detected in the last few days. 

She announced that a curfew will be imposed in Malé City starting tonight. The movement of people and vehicles would be banned in Malé, Hulhumalé and Villimalé from 22:00 hours till 05:00 hours everyday until further notice. 

Deputy DG Samiya also noted that businesses will be closed at 21:30 hours and delivery/takeaway services will not be allowed during the time of the curfew.

Furthermore, the government has also decided that gathering of more than 5 people will not be allowed in Greater Malé Area. Team Sports and Recreation activities is to be banned as well.
