After a long break, Maldives has once again kickstarted its local tourism sector with the re-opening of 16 guesthouses having more than 240 rooms.
As Covid-19 across the world, one the first precautionary measures taken were to stop tourists from staying at guesthouses. As of today, guesthouses are one again back in operation across various islands. These islands have taken certain measures before the re-opening for local tourism, as per the guidance of HPA.
In Islands, where guesthouses are open, it is now mandatory for locals to wear masks. Moreover these Islands should also have a transportation facility and isolation facility, according to the rules.
It is noteworthy that 16 guesthouses started to operate in 6 islands today. These include 242 rooms and 625 beds. K. Huraa having 7 guesthouses under operation is the island with most number of guesthouses opened. Majority of bed services are from Maafushi, summing upto 411 beds.
