Famous Tourism entrepreneur Mohamed Moosa (Champa Ucchu) has said that taxation is compulsory to provide services to citizens.
He said this while appearing as a special guest in RaajjeTV’s morning show “Fashaa iru”.
Ucchu said the governments undertake taxation when it is being asked directly and indirectly by its citizens. He said despite whatever government is in power, government needs to increase taxes. Otherwise, the option left is to take external debt according to him.
He said that due to the nature of Maldivian Islands, every island wants a hospital and an operation theatre. Delay in providing these facilities causes pressure on the government, said Ucchu.
“So how will government find the funds? They need to find it somehow. Without it how can they do that?”, said him.
