National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) which heads Maldives’s efforts against COVID-19 has revealed that the country could face its surge peak day on 31st of May.
This revealed at a Press Conference held last night at NEOC.
Dr.Sheena Moosa, a consultant for NEOC presented newly projected estimates for the situation of COVID-19 infections in the Maldives.
While presenting the new estimates, she said that the new estimates project that a total of 77,000 people could be infected in the Maldives.
She noted that as the Maldives is currently under a lockdown, a true peak cannot be seen.
However, she pointed out that the current pattern of positive cases show a surge, which will have its peak day on 31st of May.
Dr.Sheena said that on this day, 1562 people could be infected, with the authorities only being able to detect approximately 390 cases due to the limited testing capacity.
She noted that the current testing capacity in the Maldives is not enough, just like for any other country.
