Malé City has achieved a new milestone in its journey towards the “new normal”, by starting the phase 2 of easing lockdown measures imposed on the capital city.
In a statement issued, Government of Maldives noted that the current measures in place for the phase 1 of easing lockdown will remain till 14th of June 2020. The second phase of easing lockdown measures is scheduled to commence on 15th of June 2020.
Health Ministry says that starting from 15th June, onwards, no permits required for movements in the Greater Malé Region, with movements being allowed from 05:00 am to 10:00 pm everyday. The Ministry also mentioned that within these hours, particular hours will be dedicated for outdoor activities of particular age groups:
1. Walks for elderly from 05:00 am to 08:00 am
2. Movement for children (accompanied by an adult) from 04:00 pm to 06:00 pm
3. Outdoor (individual) exercise from 06:00pm to 09:00pm
In the second phase of easing lockdown, gathering of more than three persons are not allowed in public places. Moreover, visits to households has been heavily discouraged by the government.
In this phase, there has also been several eases given to retail businesses and their customers. Most notable of this is customers being allowed into all retail shops, everyday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. Furthermore, delivery of goods will be allowed from 09:00am till 11:00pm
The maximum number of customers who will be allowed inside into retail shops at any given time is also to be displayed outside shops.
Health Protection Agency has made the use of masks mandatory for all closed spaces and public service areas, and requested individuals to maintain hand hygiene as frequently as possible.
