Maldives Police Service has used pepper spray against protestors who gathered in the streets of Malé City to demand justice for the victim of the alleged sexual assault case of a Kenyan Lady onboard a Safari in Hulhumalé.
Local Media Outlets report that Police had used pepper spray against the protestors after they had officially ended the protest and were heading back to home.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this protest was done with all protesters wearing masks and social distancing being done as much as possible.
Police said that two were detained from the protest.
This protest was organized a local advocacy group called “Voice of Children”.Participants of this protest called for the arrest of the alleged perpetrators and demanded impartial conduct by police in its dealings with all cases of gender-based violence.
